Some Numerology

The Pythagoreans taught that God created the world according to numbers

Numbers are very important

For example:

The number 6
6 is related to the hexagon and to Gann's Hexagon chart

6 is also related to 1/6 and 1/6 of 1 is related to 1/6 of a circle which is 60 degrees. 60 degrees is related to the number 60 which is related to 60 years, the number of years it takes for JuSa conjunctions to occur in the 3 different signs of the same element

The number 7
Now consider the number 7. 12phi = 12 x 0.618 ~ 7. 7 is the "balance point" in a schema measured from 1 to 12 and it is interesting that the symbol of Libra (the 7th sign of the zodiac) is scales, indicating balance

Similarly, in the chromatic scale of 12 notes, there are 7 white and 5 black notes

Thus there are 2 ways of dividing a number in two:

1. Divide it by 2!
2. Multiply it by 0.618=phi

7/12 x 360 = 210 degrees. 210 cents in music is equivalent to 2 notes as follows:

2^(210/1200)=1.129

9/8 as the diatonic value of a major tone evaluates to 204 cents as follows:

2^(204/1200)=9/8

Another interesting way of playing with 2 numbers is to imagine they represent the 2 sides of a right-angled triangle next to the right angle and use the TAN function to convert the ratio into degrees

For example, arctan(9/8)~48 degrees

An interesting example of this is arctan(3/2)~56 degrees. 3/2 is called sesquialter. 56 =7x8 representing the octave (just as 9*10 would represent the octave in a 10-fold schema).

A few other interesting numbers:
0,30,45,60,90,120,135,150,180 are interesting because of their astrological associations

26 and 72 are associated with the number of God. JHVH has Gemertia 10+5+6+5=26 and if you look at this in a triangle, you get:
10
10+5
10+5+6
10+5+6+5
which sums to 72

72=9x8 and is therefore related to 9/8 which is the major tone. We have also seen how it is related to squaring the circle

4 is the number of the Earth and the 4th triangular number is 10 yeilding the tetractys
